A British-Kuwaiti director with a background in Art Direction, Jamila Al Adwani is known for her eclectic visual language and layered, reference-rich style.
With a mind that works in imagery, her journey began at Caviar London as a Creative Researcher, where she spent her days deep in visual research, crafting treatments across commercials and music videos, honing the art of the pitch.
She later joined new—land as a Director’s Assistant, stepping into the role of new–land’s lead in-house creative. Alongside pitching, designing, and reimagining the company’s brand identity, Jamila gained valuable on-set experience alongside award-winning directors.
Now directing in her own right, Jamila blends her love of subcultures, offbeat narratives, and the slightly surreal. Through a craft that has been shaped by years as a natural collector, and a innate instinct for emotionally charged imagery, her work is elevated by a creative practice rooted in research — moving beyond sourcing references for treatments, to deep dives into visual histories.
Today, Jamila is putting her notebook of the weird and wonderful to the test — developing a distinct tone while remaining open to collaborations, experimental formats, and the kind of opportunities that venture off into the unexpected.
